Well the day finally arrived Killa V T.B.O.D scared

just myself and Killa today, so we met at 8.30 am for refreshments and a general chat about the weather oh and who would be cartered off to Murrayfield chamber first.

So we did almost 2 hours of theory on the Poseidon MK Vi rebreather with Martin and gen to get the ball rolling, then it was off to test our units and prepare for dive 1.

So my unit all tested and prepared for the dive, then Killa decides to break his on the initial checks, at check no. 53, but all eventually sorted.

Dive 1
Excellent dive with 16 K of lead, I have created a 40 m cavern in BL ready for the night dive on Wednesday so that we can get some depth

Dive 2
Excellent dive again until Killa decides to break his unit again which ended up in more whistles, bells and flashing lights than south and west yorkshire emergency services could ever achieve.

On a serious note if you have any myths about rebreathers use really need to do a trial, It is a comlpletely different way of diving and has opened my eyes What a Face What a Face and Mr K has agrred to buy me one so all good.

Thanks to Martin and Gen and all at BL for a superb day and excellent tuition

My Kit in perfect order all set up and ready to go

How about a bit more info about "what it was like" and "how it was different" and "what we had to do" ?

You know when you teacher asked you to write about what you did on your holidays? Did you score well at that?

Some info for SkiesnPies:

If you have never dived on a Rebreather before (either a technical or recreational unit) you have to completely forget all the basics you have learnt - breath in you don't go up, breath out you don't go down you learn to adjust small buoyancy changes breathing out through your nose ! So it can be a little frustrating to start with but most people get the hang of it after a few minutes without crashing through one of the platforms. Some people do also find breathing on the unit a little different as well as you don't really have to demand it as such and the added bonus is you don't get a rush of cold compressed air but nice warm air.

There are a lot of myths with Rebreathers being dangerous to use, takes up to much time getting ready etc - the Poseidon unit we use is very simple and straight forward (unless Killa is using it !) there is nothing technical with these systems at all, it takes me the same time to set one up as it does the twin set. If there is any problem at all with the unit during a dive you simply push a small lever on the mouth piece and you are in open circuit on it, it really could not be any easier. I could waffle on for hours about how great they are and also light enough to take as hand luggage on holiday

Hopefully this gives you a little more info on it but if you are interested in seeing them and having a go Poseidon have arranged for various "Try Dive" weekends as shown in Sport Diver, we only have places left now on Saturday 30th March but feel free to ask if you have any questions.

It wouldn't bother me in the least if he went in wearing a mankini dragging a full oak tree in it with him Laughing

well if its a Mankini dive it might have to wait until later in Spring for me then, sounds great if it means ditching the dry suit :-)
