Eyemouth Spring Clean
and maybe a dive or two Smile

Several of us ProScuba friends headed north of the border in the sunshine. Eyemouth needed volunteers to help clean the harbour and beeches. As the St Abbs and Eyemouth Reserve is one best places in the world to dive, we have a duty to look after it. Some of us have dived this world top ten dive location for well over 20 years. This is not our first first clean up here, but everytime we do a little bit it all helps. This Spring clean was organised by the local community, with ProScuba turning up and helping out.

...........Spring clean over..... time for some diving

A weekend away for Dori and myself
Playing with the
fishes and crabs

We headed north for St Abbs and Eyemouth, to help out with the beech cleaning
day on Sunday, but seeing an opportunity for loads of brownie point I
decided to make it into an Mothering Sunday Weekend, I know a bit unusual but right up
Dori's street. We would get to see some friends not seen since last year and
time to catch up.

As we crossed the border the sun was shining and the sea was like a mill pond,
the excitement started to build.......

So the plan was to stop at Marine quest for a brew and have a natter with Jim
and Ethel, always good for a crack, after a three hour drive the cuppa was
welcomed with open mouths, mmmmmmmm, and the sausage Panini was awesome.

Then sort out a couple of fills ready for Sunday afternoon. Scout croft next
stop. Amanda was in fine fettle as always, shame the same can not be said for
her compressor, goosed is what I think she said, well the English translation
of!! Those that know and love Amanda will no what I mean Very Happy

She mentioned some thing a bout a 10" hose but she needed an 18" one.... Embarassed I had to walk away........... Very Happy Very Happy

So option 2, Quick trip down to Paul Crow's at the Rock house in Abbs harbour,
left the cylinders with him and took a few snaps of my new decorating hobby.
Paul was also busy painting one of the boats that had been lifted from the
water, (It wasn't his own boat either, a very nice man helping the
competition).
Right up to Priory View to Check in, then get the kit sorted for the Night
dive, Greenend gully here we come.
Paul was going to come and have a play but due to the "San Miguel"
flu he decided it would be best not to.
So checking the tides and times etc we headed back down to Eyemouth. Paul had
said that the tides where high and he was bang on, so we made our final preps
for the dive and headed down to the entrance, Dori was just a little bit keener
than me and headed down first I was almost there when I heard a little voice
calling for help!
I got there to see she had slipped leg going oppossite direction and taken out the rock
wall with her forehead and face planted on the slip way. Holywood boulovard styly. But she was laughing, the rock was a right off though.
After righting her, with much effort we
re-assessed the situation and decided to continue with the night dive. (Brave
woman, I would have wanted airlifting to the nearest hospital) Very Happy

So with a weeeee swell on her forehead and another on the sea we continued for
a 40 minute dive, whic was very relaxing, well mine was but I guess it just
wasn't Dori's day, yep you got it! her suit leaked!!! so with the Sea temperature
at a mere 7degrees, we turned the dive and headed for the shore.

So kit in van, Dori Wrapped in Blanket back to B&B to get warm DRY clothes on, and off critter
spotting up St Abbs head with the stars shinning in the night sky’s,
the local wild life didn't disappoint.

Sunday was a steady start with the usual Scottish breakfast, meeting up with
Smudge, Andy and Ange, we signed up to the Beech clean up. Tools and gloves
handed out of we go, the area we got to clean was just to the left side of
Eyemouth Harbour entrance. About 1/2 Tonne of rubbish recovered and Job done. The
other group cleaned the far side of the harbour by the Life boat Station, A
good turn out and well organised as always by the Marine reserve conservation
society.
A few well earned cuppa's later and it was time to head back up to Stabbs for a
couple of dives with Paul on Path finder.
Dive one off Black Carrs this is still one of the best dives for a good little
drift when the tides are running right, was hoping for some wolf fish but none
this time Sad ,
but still a great dive, 20mtr for a chilling 46 minutes.
Back on the boat for a hot chocolate, and what went on for the surface interval
will stay on the boat, but bungee's and duct tape where in a abundance! Shocked Shocked Shocked
Poor Dori we a little damp and decided to sit out the second dive, so of course
I said I would sit and keep her warm..........yeah right Dive two Very Happy Very Happy ,
Just me and Hardcore AndyW took the plunge for a dive on the woody swim through.
so leaving Paul with Dori Smudge and Ange (poor fellow)
roast potato browning fluid coated, Andy and myself headed back to the sea bed for another cracking
dive 17mtr 37 minutes and with that we headed back to shore.....Although the
vis was no better than blue lagoon it was still well worth the effort, the sea
always amazes me no mater what time of year.
Thanks’ to everyone that turned up Great effort

A Fantastic day had by all, Thanks to everyone for the effort and great fun as usual !!

It would be unfair for me to comment on the boat antics as what goes on tour stays on tour however I would like to add - (No best not)

Now to the Decorating !!
