| Capernwray 30-01-11 On a crisp cold day, the ProScuba Diving club headed up into Lancashire to Capernwray Diving Quarry. 14 of our divers headed into the crystal clear waters of this limestone flooded quarry. Two dives completed by the majority of the team. Here is the team today... | |

| A very good days diving at Capers today. I was diving with dobs and skies and pies. We were lead on the first dive by mr dobs. We say the horse, devil, large chopper, large sturgeon, podsnap and back out. A good 45 mins cold slightly wet dive!!!. The 2nd dive was just dobs and myself. We headed to the container, podsnap, sump, cessna and back out. This was a short 20 mins dive due to being cold and wet again. This was Mr Dobs 100th dive. Congrats on the acheivement.
It was also sonics birthday - Congrats to you.
Good to see alot out on a cold day and good to get wet again.

| firstly id like to thank everyone for coming out today as it made my birthday all the more enjoyable. special thanks to do c and co for the cake and candles/fireworks lol. made an old man feel loved and also to smudge for the cylinders and other bits and bobs so the dives then:- dive one was led by doc and there was charlesworth, sammy, gemma and myself. we swam down to a few metres so gemma and i could feed the fish (gemma loved them by the way). then on we went to explore the plane, iso container and helicopter and the big wreck (name escapes me). lost charlesworth and sammy early in the dive due to sammys impression of an ice cube lol. dive two, again led by doc consisted of jack, ANDY(the fish)W, chalesworth, gemma and myself. this was a shallow dive and a general play around at lord lucan and shergar. couldnt resist a play with the fishies on the way back in. water was a mild 4 degrees on both dives. thanks again to everyone for a fantastic day. i couldnt wish for better friends | |

| It was chilly morning but the company fantastic. It was an honour to dive with such a dive LEGend as Mr Killa. Dive 1 - Site Briefing and introduction to our intended dive then onto, pretty much as Mr Killa has already explained, Horse/Devil, three boats, container/chopper, podsnap, plane/boat and exit. 18 metres, 4°C and 43mins. Dive 2 - Plane, Podsnap, Sump, Sesna, Training Platforms, rock exit - around to ramp and exit. 23mins, 20metres and 3°C. Note to self if gloves are slightly crispy and stiff before second dive, find some others. Thank you to everyone for the day so enjoyable it was really good to see so many people out. Congratulations Sonic on your SMB (Saturday) and Sonic & Euan for your Birthdays yesterday.... See you all in the water again soon.... | |

| Ange and myself were asked to look after Geoff as he had had a freeflow in Eccy the previous day. I managed to pull Will into this group also. We did a full buddy check. It was strange, and slightly worrying, that Geoff told us that this was the first buddy check at a dive site since he had been out diving with our group. Have we become that lax about such things especially with newcomers to the group We got in ok but I got severe head freeze and was about to get out but managed to overcome it. With what was about to unfold it was just as well. Ange was leading, with Will buddying Geoff and me as sheepdog. Down to the horses ok and then over the edge and down to 16m. Now it all kicked off Will had an issue with his reg and Ange tried to pass her AAS to him. He refused and indicated that he had it under control so didn't need it. As I came along side to see what was happening Geoff got a full-on freeflow. Ange passed her AAS to Geoff and indicated for me to turn his cylinder off. This was accomplished but we then noticed we were about 5m from the surface and still rising. We broke surface, checked all were ok and surface swam back. The ascent had been uncontrolled but not rapid so we automatically disqualified ourselves from any further dives and I reported the incident to the dive supervisor aka Smudge. This was the first time I had faced this for real and for those who haven't yet, trust me it is nothing like what we practice in the pool. Still, we are all ok and will all learn from the experience Many thanks to Geoff for staying calm throughout, for Ange who acted professionally and correctly faced with two freeflows within seconds of each other and to Will who also stayed calm. As for me, a re-think is required. Much to learn | |

| Thanks for the indepth report. At this time of year when the water temp is what it is - free flowing regulators are not an un-common problem. As Normal all I will say is the more we dive and practice the skills in open water the easier and safer it all becomes. Remember this is not normally the coldest month yet! | |

| As Tink has already written, we had an interesting dive yesterday. As we were diving with someone we hadn't dived with before as didn't know how aware of different kit Geoff was, I decided to carry out a buddy check. As Tink said, he hadn't carried one of these out with us lot. With so many on twins and the redundancy issues that many use them for, I was surprised. We also specified buddies. Again, Geoff commented on our group often diving as a group with no specified buddy. For others not used to diving with us or those new to diving, that may seem daunting not knowing who to go to if any issues. Anyway, we went down the slipway to the horses. after checking that we had enough air, I decided that we would decend to the plane. I was just checking that everyone was OK when I was confronted with Will signalling hat he had a free flow. On offering him my AAS, he declined and then Geoff was signalling his free flow. With Geoff being surrounded by a mass of bubbles and Will only having a slight leak I decided to divert my attention to Geoff. He took my AAS, started dumping air and took hold. By the time all of this was done we had already accended! The situation was so different to the pool, especially having 2 free flows simultaneously Though it was great that there was no panic and everyone dealt with the situation calmly and efficiently. After the surface swim we had a great debrief, figuring out how this could have been dealt with differently. As the two sets of equipment were still free flowing once we had dekitted, there was very little chance of another dive without the risk of a repeating the situation. A day wth lots to learn | |

| Without opening a big debate.
You are all divers. not students anymore! Do what you were taught as divers!
When you dive with me -You will nearly always do things in order, especially if there are new divers in the group - I do the following...
1. Make sure everyone is ready - I know some people bite at the bit over this 2. Put weight belts on 3. Do Buddy checks

| Sorry just add.... TDM's are taught and reminded throughout there training about BWRAF, it is a skill that is drumed home to you - at no point does this change on any dive. All the fundimental skills in your training as divers is what you should keep to - why change things! | |
